5 Exercise Tips to Take into the New Year
If you have had a consultation with a bariatric surgeon in Pembroke Pines, you were likely told to start an exercise regimen. Although bariatric surgery can help you to lose weight, exercise and proper diet will be the keys to maintaining your weight loss. As the New Year approaches, make sure to keep in mind these five simple exercise tips for weight loss:
- Develop a plan of attack. Be specific about how much exercise you are going to do and how frequently. Also, set a date to reevaluate your exercise plan. For example, you may decide that you will exercise for 30 minutes per day on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and reevaluate after three weeks. Without a plan your exercise goals will likely be forgotten.
- Start with realistic expectations. A lot of people go to the gym in January after having not exercised since the previous January. They get on the treadmill and vow to run eight miles in an hour. After a minute they’re in pain and out of breath. Take your current health condition and physical fitness level into account as you exercise. Push yourself, but be realistic.
- Workout first thing in the morning. It’s easy to get caught up in day-to-day responsibilities and make excuses for not going to the gym. Instead, make working out the first thing you do upon waking to prevent excuses from getting in between you and the gym.
- Workout with a buddy. A workout buddy will motivate you to get up early and go to the gym. A workout buddy will also help you to get the most out of each and every workout.
- Warm up before every workout and cool down after every workout. This prevents injury. Although it may seem like a waste of time, injuring yourself would cause an even greater loss of time.
