Fidget for Better Health

Everyone knows that a sedentary lifestyle is unhealthy. However, new research is showing that one prolonged burst of exercise each day is not enough to ensure good health. The longer you spend sitting down, and the fewer times you get up to move and take a break, the higher your chances of health issues ranging from weight gain to high cholesterol to heart disease.

After weight loss surgery, it is especially important that you get plenty of physical activity to help you lose the weight and keep it off. While daily exercise is important, it is just as important to maintain good levels of physical activity throughout your day. This can be hard to do if you work at a job that requires that you sit at a desk for long hours.

Try the tips below to keep active after your bariatric surgery:

  • Sit on an exercise ball. Not only are these often more comfortable than usual straight backed chairs, they require that you use your core muscles to sit on them.
  • Get out of your seat at least once every thirty minutes for one minute or more. Use that time to stretch, walk around and even dance a bit to get your heart pumping.
  • Fidget a lot. Forget what your mother said about this being a bad habit. Moving in your seat often can actually help you burn up to 350 additional calories per day.
  • Try not to use chairs with straight back. Go shopping at a furniture store here in the Hollywood are for an ergonomic chair that will allow you to move around more.
